Assays for Cannabinoids
نویسنده
چکیده
Marijuana use pervades every facet of our daily life. However, despite the growing awareness and mounting fear that marijuana is having a serious impact on driving performance and highway safety, routine analysis for the detection of marijuana use is minimal. Part of this reluctance is due to a lack of understanding about the assays, what the assays can and can not do, and what the results mean. Fortunately, intensive research has been conducted over the past 10 years on the metabolism, disposition, and pharmacokinetics of marijuana, and a variety of analytical methods have been developed to detect and measure cannabinoids and/or their metabolites in blood, urine, and other biological materials. In this paper I review these analytical methods and recent studies designed to evaluate their performance, the suitability of cutoff levels, and the compatability of screening methods and confirmation procedures. Further, I discuss the interpretation of results, the question of intoxication, passive inhalation, and oral ingestion, and describe a scheme used in the workplace, with inexpensive urine tests to select blood specimens.

Validation of a novel immunoassay for the detection of synthetic cannabinoids and metabolites in urine specimens.
Synthetic cannabinoid drugs do not cross react on traditional marijuana immunoassay tests, preventing their use in large scale drug screening programs. This paper describes the validation and performance characteristics of two enzyme linked immunosorbent assays designed to detect the use of two common synthetic cannabinoids in urine, JWH-018 and JWH-250. The JWH-018 assay has significant cross-...
متن کاملEvaluation of the CEDIA DAU assays and the AxSym system for the analysis of cannabinoids in whole blood.
The Microgenics CEDIA DAU (EIA) and the Abbott AxSym system (FPIA) cannabinoids assays were evaluated for their combined effectiveness in the analysis of cannabinoids in whole blood. Blood samples were treated with acetone, evaporated, and reconstituted, and the supernatant was analyzed by the EIA cannabinoids assay. Blood samples determined positive by EIA were then treated with acetonitrile a...

Background: Since cannabis has been legally allowed for medicinal purposes in many countries, it has become more interesting issue, particularly in neurologic disorders such as Alzheimer’s disease (AD). Inhibition of acetylcholinesterase (AChE) is one of the mechanisms for the treatment of AD. Objectives: The present study aimed to establish a method for preparation of cannabinoids-rich extrac...
متن کاملNeuroprotective properties of cannabinoids against oxidative stress: role of the cannabinoid receptor CB1.
Neuroprotective effects have been described for many cannabinoids in several neurotoxicity models. However, the exact mechanisms have not been clearly understood yet. In the present study, antioxidant neuroprotective effects of cannabinoids and the involvement of the cannabinoid receptor 1 (CB1) were analysed in detail employing cell-free biochemical assays and cultured cells. As it was reporte...
متن کاملEmerging Psychedelics: A Systematic Review of Synthetic Cannabinoids
Objective: In recent years, the advent of synthetic cannabinoids, deceptive advertising and cyber sales has led young people to use them. The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) has identified the prevalence of using these compounds as a major public health challenge. The aim of the present study was to systematically review synthetic cannabinoids. Method: This study was a descript...
